£1.5 million Glasgow water deal for Fastflow

Fastflow Pipeline Services has begun laying new water mains at Sighthill in Glasgow.

Fastflow Pipeline Services has begun laying new water mains at Sighthill in Glasgow.

Utilities and property services specialist, the Fastflow Group, has been engaged to carry out a major water mains diversion for Glasgow’s biggest regeneration project.

The £1.5 million contract involves the installation of around 500 metres of 900mm and 300mm iron mains, which will serve the new homes, retail and business premises being created at Sighthill, in the north of the city.

Fastflow’s Pipeline Services division (FPS) is carrying out the work for main contractor, Morgan Sindall. Fastflow’s Contracts Manager, Drew O’Rourke, is hopeful that the successful completion of the initiative will pave the way for a further kilometre of mains laying for the £250 million regeneration programme.

“Our team has quickly forged good working relationships with the client and the project is progressing well,” he said:  “And we are already discussing additional work on this site and others around Glasgow, which could keep us busy for several months.”

The water contract has been secured and is being managed from the Hamilton office of FPS, which has its headquarters are in the North East of England – at Washington.  FPS has been working in Scotland for a decade and is part of a £120 million turnover group, which also looks after high pressure gas networks for clients such as National Grid and builds and repairs homes for some of the UK’s largest registered housing providers.

Sighthill is the largest of eight Transformational Regeneration Areas (TRAs) in Glasgow.  Working through Transforming Communities, Glasgow City Council, in partnership with the Scottish Government and Glasgow Housing Association has developed an ambitious masterplan for the area.

It includes proposals for almost 1,000 homes for sale and rent, a site for student accommodation, or similar use, retail and commercial facilities, a new pedestrian bridge over the M8 and a new road bridge linking the area to the north and west of the city.
